About Reducing Your Credit Card Debt!

Wouldn't it be great to reduce credit card debt? Have you reached a point that bills and personal debt seems overwhelming to you? Don't feel alone, because you're not the only one. Debt in America today is out-of-control and a lot of people would love to at least reduce credit card debt.

Tens of millions of people are living with debt as part of their everyday lives. Some carry tens of thousands of dollars of personal debt and it's not easy to escape from. But fortunately, there is hope! Often, debt is accumulated over time, usually by using multiple credit cards.

Credit cards can be very powerful financial tools but when overused and abused, they become a real burden and don't work well with any kind of strategies to save money.

The credit cards companies have been pushing credit cards of all types for many years. Frequently they offer the best credit card rates to get you to sign up and then increase the rates as time goes along! They use teaser programs to draw you in...

And in our consumer driven society it's easy to spend more then we make by swiping that little plastic card as you check out. Even if you have the best credit card rates, living beyond your means by using credit cards will often get you into financial problems.

The bottom line though, is that having excessive personal debt is something you need to reduce and work through if you plan on taking control of your money matters. If you are in over your head, there are a number of things that you can do to help yourself reduce credit card debt.

Reduce Credit Card Debt Yourself

Decide if you feel confident that you can pay your debt off yourself. If so, get organized and follow the next three steps to get your bills under control.

1. Make a List

Make a list of all of your debts and put them in order from the highest interest rate to the lowest interest rate. Write out the interest and amount of the minimum payment next to the loan. Now you have your list of prioritized payments.

2. Make Payments

Make minimum payments on all of the loan amounts as listed except the top one, which is the highest interest payment. Put any extra money toward that loan because it is costing you the largest amount of interest. Your goal here is to reduce credit card debt from the top of the list and work your way down.

3. Move Down The List

Once the loan with the highest interest rate at the top is paid off, apply the extra money that you have toward the next loan on the list. With each loan that you pay off, you have more funds available to work with. Do you feel a sense of satisfaction as you move down the list gaining momentum as you reduce credit card debt?

Alternatives

Another possibility is that you may be able to move your balances to a new credit card with a 0% introductory offer.

This pay-down method is not always the answer however. It may make more sense to sell off some other asset in order to get the money necessary to pay off the loan balances. You might consider selling your car for a less expensive car and use the balance to pay off your debt. That doesn't sound like a very good idea, does it? Lets keep working on other plans...

Some people even go to the extent of selling their homes and downsizing to pay off debt. Hopefully that will not be necessary and you'll be able to reduce credit card debt as part of your strategies to save money and get the best reduction possible.
